Great News!!

It turns out that the medical problem we thought we were facing was just a false alarm!!

We visited the doctor earlier today for biopsy results which came back negative. What a relief! Very unexpected, as the specialist thought it was a skin cancer which would require surgery in hospital (because of the spot being near an eye). He even gave us a likely surgery date next week.

The biopsy revealed that it was a "haemangioma" which, according to the fact sheet that the Dr. gave us is "a benign, harmless mass of blood vessels. The capillaries of the skin have dilated to form a raised lesion". So, basically, what looked like a tiny blemish, and then turned into an ugly cancer has now returned to harmless-little-red-spot status. Yay!

After the doctor's appointment we stopped in at Ray's and picked up a couple of new director type camp chairs (the kind with the little table that comes out on the side), and we were going to refill one of our gas bottles, but once we had a look it was more full than we had thought so we'll leave it as is for now and refill on the road if we need to.

We thought we were going to be here for at least another week to ten days, and now we find ourselves scrambling to get the last few details organised so that we can hit the road ASAP and make up for the lost few days.

Won't be long now! :)

Trip Delayed

It looks like we are going to have to delay our trip due to a medical issue. We had hoped to leave today, but now we are looking at another couple of weeks before we head off.

We are pretty bummed out, both because of the health issue (which should hopefully soon be resolved) and because we were so looking forward to the trip.

We even managed to prepare ourselves to the point that we are living on the dregs of the fridge, and have had to make an emergency run to the shop for toilet paper.

On the bright side, I suppose a bit more time to prepare couldn't hurt, and considering the weather in Western Australia at the moment, maybe it's just as well.

Esperance, which has been hit especially hard, was to be one of the highlights of the trip. Apparently several days ago campers were evacuated due to out of control fires and Western Australia has been hit by a "super storm". I've had my doubts about heading in that direction at this time of year due to the heat, suggesting that we go to Tasmania instead and WA during winter. But, after all this rain maybe we'll see a green Nullarbor after all.

At least with the storms headed in an easterly direction over Australia we have the hope of relief from the stifling heat we've experienced the last few days and, if it's not too much to ask for, some of that much needed wet stuff falling from the sky would be fab.

Another Hurdle Overcome..

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Off to a slow start today after a big night.

Mike spent the afternoon organising the camper and loading, unloading and reloading the car about 47 times.

I've been updating the laptop with the programs we'll need to be able to update the blog while travelling and testing some of the features that will make keeping in touch easier.

Only a few days to go!

The One that Didn't Get Away

For a few moments we thought that Picasa was the best thing since sliced bread. Then of course, things went horribly wrong. Now that I've uninstalled, reinstalled and re-booted we finally had a successful photo posted via Picasa.

So, in the sprit of tempting the fates... lets try again!
